read recently that hollywood are more interested in finding the next tom cruise than the next spielberg.....this, funnily enough, does not surprise me.. just shows they're in it to make money....there arent many directors left who you would rank up there with kubrick or copola soderbergh?.. not quite...bit too hollywood for my liking.

I think Brad Anderson,, who directed Happy s and Session 9, among others, could be the next big thing. I mean this guy is that good.

Hollywood makes bad films. Period. Scorscese, Kubrick, Lean, Spielberg, they made good films, Hollywood never made them.

Hollywood has always been driven by money and it will remain driven by money until Hollywood it gone. Period.

So unless another Kubrick or another Lean appears in Hollywood soon, we'll see more of the same crap, the same "Hollywood money makers" for a long time.

But, let's face it, it the public actually went and saw good films, maybe people in Hollywood would at least attempt to make them...Just a thought.

Unfortunately, it's the stars that attract the punters. Tom Cruise in a poor Hollywood remake will make more money than an intelligent film from Spain with no stars, for example.
